August
14 & 15: Overnight Trip to Creede, CO. Explore the town’s rich mining history and traverse through its exciting mining destinations! Depart 8:15 AM; Return approx. 4 PM. $210/person (double occupancy or $290/person (single occupancy). Meet at Public Works 1221 6450 Rd at 8 am.
27: Fall Hike-Old Railroad Grade at Lizard Head Pass. This 4.5 mile round trip hike of the former railroad bed of the Rio Grande Southern Railroad is easy at an elevation of just over 10,000 feet. 8 am – 3:30 pm. Fee $19. Bring sack lunch. Meet at Senior Center at 7:45 am.
29: West Elk Mine Tour in Somerset plus lunch in Paonia. Learn about the West Elk Mine history, and future thermal coal operation. 7:15 am – 4 pm. Fee $21. Bring money for lunch. Meet at Senior Center at 7 am.
September
5: Hemp, Hops, and H2O. Learn about Misty Mountain Hop Farm, Project 7 Water Authority, and Little Flower Hemp Company. 8:45 am – 4:30 pm. Fee $15. Bring money for lunch. Meet at Senior Center 8:30 am.
19: West Bend Trail Hike. This trail runs along the west side of the Grand Mesa. 6 miles round trip with an elevation of 9672 and gain of 254 feet. 7:45 am – 5 pm. Fee $19. Bring sack lunch. Meet at Senior Center at 7:30 am.
21: Ouray County Ranch History Museum, Ridgway Railroad Museum, and Second Chance Humane Society plus lunch in Ridgway. Explore the 1880’s 17-room museum, ride the train, tour and meet the animals then have lunch. 9 am – 3pm. Fee $26. Bring money for lunch. Meet at Field House 25 Colorado at 8:45 am.
23: Last Dollar 4-Wheel Drive Tour. View the fall colors in a 9-passenger vehicle with heated seats. 8 am – 4 pm. Fee $82 (includes tour & gratuity). Bring sack lunch. Meet at Senior Center at 7:45 am.
24: Gunnison Valley Observatory & dinner in Gunnison. Private tour of the GVO including a presentation and viewing the night sky from the observatory dome. 4 pm – 11:30 pm. Fee $30. Bring money for dinner. Meet at Senior Center at 3:45 pm.
26: Fall Colors Drive. Travel of Dallas Pass and onto Lizard Head to view the beautiful fall colors. 8:15 am – 4 pm. Fee $21. Bring sack lunch. Meet at Senior Center at 8 am.
October
3: Cedaredge Tour plus lunch at Aspen Trails. Tour unique gallery, studio, and market plus purchase fruits and veggies then have lunch. 8:15 am – 4 pm. Fee $21. Bring money for lunch. Meet at Senior Center at 8 am.
10: Mica Mine Hike-Bangs Canyon Recreation Area. This is a 3-mile round trip hike to the historic mica quartz mine. 8 am – 4 pm. Fee $19. Bring sack lunch. Meet at Senior Center at 7:45 am.
15: Local Arts Scene Tour of Telluride & Ridgway. Tour the Ah Haa School of Arts, Telluride School of Arts and the remodeled Sherbino Theater. 8 am – 4 pm. Fee $21. Bring money for lunch. Meet at Senior Center at 7:45 am.
17: Palisade Insectary and Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) plus lunch in Grand Junction. Learn about beneficial organisms use to control agricultural pests. Tour the CBI facility used by law enforcement for forensic and laboratory services. 8:15 am – 5 pm. Fee $21. Bring money for lunch. Meet at Senior Center at 8 am.
22: Overnight trip to Towaoc-Ute Mtn. Casino and/or Canyons of the Ancients Tour. Option 1 take you directly to the casino. Option 2 take you directly to the canyons tour. Overnight at the Towaoc Casino Hotel. 8 am Tuesday – 1 pm Wednesday. Fee $104 Dbl. occupancy, $147 sgl. occupancy. Meet at Public Works 1221 6450 Rd. at 7:45 am.
November
14: North Fork Creative Coalition Member’s Tour plus lunch at Paonia Aeolian Acres. The Multicultural Art and Healing Center, Blacklight and Sanborn Studios all offer an experience in indigenous and Earth wisdom ways through art, crafts, etc. 8:45 am – 4:30 pm. Fee $21. Bring money for lunch. Meet at Senior Center at 8:30 am.
December
1: Community Concerts of the Grand Valley plus lunch at Zoup! in Grand Junction. Enjoy international tour group Rockapella, who offer a funky, powerful soundtrack to vocals. 11:45 am – 7 pm. Fee $46 (must register by Nov. 1-nonrefundable). Bring money for lunch. Meet at Field House at 11:30 am.
