Don’t think of yourself as “artsy”? At the Blue Sage in Paonia, the arts are for everyone! Whether you want to swing to a big band or join the fun of a contra dance, sip your way through the southern hemisphere or revel in world-class music, the Blue Sage Center for the Arts is an exciting place to visit this fall.
Master pianist Susan Ellinger joins fiery violinist Francesca Anderegg interpreting works by Mozart, Schumann, John Adams, and others in an evening of classical magic, Saturday October 5th. For a total change-of-pace, join us for our annual membership party and barbecue dinner on October 18th. The Corn Mash band will play down-home tunes, while John Unger calls steps for the contra dance—beginners welcome.
No sooner do photographs from our historical “Picture Paonia” competition come down from the gallery walls than we welcome creations by alumni from eclectic Elsewhere Studios.
Offering residency opportunities to 230 artists from 34 states and 21 countries during the past eight years, Elsewhere will bring unique works by 16 of these talented artists to a juried exhibition that will take over the Blue Sage Gallery from October 25th to November 23rd.
November 1st, show off your best moves and festive attire when Clark Gault’s Swing City Express takes the Curtis Hall stage from 8-11 P.M. for “The Saints & Sinners Ball.”
Sommeliers from Storm Cellar will lead a November 9th workshop on wines from the other side of the equator in an event that’s anything but stuffy. There’s limited seating, so make reservations early to taste dynamic vintages in an exuberant atmosphere. (See “Wine and Art in Paonia.”
November 16th, the fabulous Tesla Quartet presents “Russian Masterworks” by Rimsky-Korsakov and Tchaikovsky in an evening concert. Then Blue Sage artistic director Susan Ellinger on grand piano joins Jun Watanabe on clarinet and Matthew Dane on viola for a December 1st matinee of Brahms, Schumann, and Gershwin titled “Clarinet Trios.”
December 3rd – 20th, the Blue Sage Gallery transforms into a Holiday Bazaar, complementing Paonia’s “Holiday Art Fair” which takes place on December 6th & 7th. This two-day joint effort of the Sage and the North Fork Creative Coalition presents regional arts and crafts, where you’re sure to find the perfect gift for everyone on your list.
Spent all your money? New Year’s Day marks the annual “Black-Eyed Pea Jubilee,” a chance to start 2020 right with good luck, fellowship, and the opportunity to hear many of the area’s most accomplished musicians at no cost save a dish to add to the buffet. It’s all happening at the Blue Sage Center for the Arts in downtown Paonia, where the harvest is abundant. Visit us soon! More information, bluesage.org/
