Hops are a hot commodity in Montrose County. The 32 acres of 2,028 precisely configured tall poles, laced and stabilized with heavy cable, are still a mystery to some, but the word is out: the poles and cables are trellises for the high-climbing hop plant —the secret to good beer and in demand by Colorado’s craft beer industry. Newly harvested, Billy Goat Hop Farm hops have already been distributed to brewers around the state, and recently graced the stage at the Telluride Blues & Brews Festival.
