Montrose County, Colorado
Montrose was incorporated on May 2, 1882 and named after Sir Walter Scott’s novel, A Legend of Montrose.The town was known by the names of Pomona, Dad’s Town, Uncompahgre Town, and several other names, before it finally came to be known asMontrose. After the railroad arrived, the town became an important regional shipping center. It still is!
Ouray County, Colorado

Because of its rugged mountain topography, Ouray is also known as the Switzerland of America. It was named for Chief Ouray, a distinguished Ute Indian chief. In 1881, Dolores County was formed out of Ouray County. In 1883, San Miguel County was formed from Ouray County. Ouray is the county seat.
Delta County, Colorado
Delta County was named from a delta of arable land at the mouth of the Uncompahgre River, where it flows into the Gunnison River. Towns besides Delta, which is the county seat, include Cedaredge, Crawford, Orchard City (Eckert), and the ”North Fork’ (of the Gunnison), Hotchkiss and Paonia.

San Juan County is one of the 64 counties of the U.S. state of Colorado, and with a population of less than 700 year-round, is the least populous county in Colorado. Silverton is the ‘largest’ town and the county seat.
