Magic Circle Players, Montrose CO, presents MASH
Inspired by the hit movie and television series, Magic Circle Players presentation of ‘MASH’ recounts another hilarious episode in the lives of the endearing surgeons and nurses operating a Mobile Army Surgical Hospital during the Korean War. The large cast, featuring newcomers and seasoned actors, is rounded out by Scott Baadte (Hawkeye) and Scott Pollak (Duke) who bring the two unpredictable and beloved characters of Hawkeye and Duke to life – the two best surgeons in South Korea. By Kate Burke. Our cover artist, photographer Gary Ratcliff, is renowned for his beautiful photography of the San Juan Mountains and Colorado Plateau. While he spends most of his time in the field, behind a lens, he plans to put some (weekend) time in this summer at his new gallery in Ridgway, at 549 Clinton St. The Opening Reception is Friday, June 4th. Jeff Ellingson has been with the Durango and Silverton Railroad for 33 years, serving as an engineer, fireman, conductor, railroad car restoration artisan, and currently, the Museum Curator for the Roundhouse Museum. He is also an acclaimed watercolorist, and his favorite subject matter is, of course, trains! as well as railroad history, and the San Juan Mountains. [Story]

Artist Updates

Weehawken director presents artist Cheri Isgreen with the “People’s Choice Award” at the 610 Open Show.
Cheri’s painting Lucky Find was chosen for exhibition, Splash of Colorado, a juried exhibit open to all Colorado artists working in water media. The exhibition opens June 2 and runs through June 27. Opening Reception will be June 17, 5-8 pm. at the Crested Butte Center for the Arts. [Story]
VSA Musician Spotlight: Harland Clubb
By Stacey Ryan. Hartland Clubb, Jr., current VSA Board President and owner of Clubb’s Stores in Delta, has been an active member of the VSA in various ways for decades. He played trumpet with the orchestra from 1981-1986, has been singing with the chorus since 2004, and serving on the board since 2010. [Read his story here.]
Endlessly creative and innovative, one of Cheri Isgreen’s latest endeavors is something she calls Beyond Raku. The process involves creating and firing raku tiles in her outdoor studio in Montrose, Colorado. Then she finishes them with a variety of pigments, other materials, and found objects. Watch this video to see how she does it.
