World Music Day
[Montrose CO | June 2021] The Fête de la Musique, also known in English as Music Day, Make Music Day or World Music Day, is an annual music celebration that takes place on June 21st, the first day after the Summer Solstice.
On Music Day the citizens of a city or country are allowed and urged to play music outside in their neighborhoods or in public spaces and parks. Amateur and professional musicians are encouraged to perform in the streets, under the slogan “Faites de la musique” (“Make music”). Many free concerts are organized, making all genres of music accessible to the public. One of the caveats is that all music must be free, but this year, after so many musicians were financially hurt by Covid, the festival is a chance to make that up to them. When you hear them play, tip geneerously!
The event takes place here on a Monday, so many places celebrate a little early to take advantage of the weekend. Weehawken Creative Arts and Sherbino host Fete de la Musique in Ridgway, all day Sunday, June 20. Musicians are encourage to play around town, and listeners are asked to tip a little or a lot as they enjoy the free music.
Fete De La Musique is presented by Weehawken Creative Arts, Sherbino and Citizen’s State Bank with support from Colorado Boy Pub & Brewery, Ouray County Performing Arts Guild, San Miguel Power Association and. Full Tilt Saloon!
June 20th is summer solstice, which happens to coincide with World Music Day (the 21st). On Music Day the citizens of a community are allowed and urged to play and enjoy music outside in their neighborhoods or in public spaces and parks. Our plan is for MANY musicians from all genres and levels to participate in this event. The event will be FREE to the public and will take place distanced and outdoors, with multiple performances happening at once all over town. The public will be encouraged to bring cash to tip the artists and artists will also be given an honorarium.
