[ May 2020 | San Juan Silver Stage | By Jodine Broskovak, Director, Montrose Center for the Arts ]

Like all neighboring art galleries, the Montrose Center for the Arts (MCA), at 11 S. Park Ave., is in a constant state of flux. We’ve changed dates several times. The Art Center is currently closed, but we are accepting canvases for the Square Deal between noon and 3 pm, Friday, May 8th. Participating artists are being notified by email as we arrange a delivery schedule that allows us to comply with social distancing regulations. Our scheduled date to be open to the public is Tuesday, May 26, when we begin summer hours of 11 am – 5 pm, Tuesday – Saturday (closed Sunday and Monday).

Throughout the month of June, MCA hosts the Square Deal Show Exhibit. Visitors will have a chance to bid on silent auction canvases. Artwork is unsigned and includes a variety for new artists to established professionals. Opening bid is $25.

Friday, July 3, we plan to resume our First Friday Art Receptions with the reception & final auction sales for Square Deal Show and reception for our featured artist for July: photographer, Bonnie Heidbrak. Bonnie’s show will hang throughout the month of July.

Friday, August 7, MCA hosts a reception for Motor Art Show, which will hang throughout the month of August. The event is also in conjunction with the “Unknown Motorcycle Show,”  August 15th. An annual event, the show will be held in Montrose this year from 10 am to 3 pm at S. 1st Street. The show features vintage, classic, custom and rat bikes.

Magic Circle Players – Disney Newsies, The Broadway Musical

[ May 2020 | San Juan Silver Stage | By Patti Powel]

MCP opens their 20/21 season with the Disney Newsies. Auditions are May 26 and 27. The play has a large cast of varying ages for singing and dancing roles.

Our scheduled opening is September 2020, and of course is dependent upon County and State mandates and the health of our nation. We have auditions scheduled May 26 & 27, and will follow all guidelines for auditions and rehearsals. Audition packets can be found online at magiccircleplayers.com or in a drop box at the front door of the theatre. This is a large cast, and while we have a need for many young men, to fill singing and dancing roles, there are many other roles available.  We will be casting female and male actors of varying ages, both singing/dancing roles, as well as some non-singing/ non- dancing roles. Come Audition With Us!

Auditions are usually held at the Magic Circle Theatre, unless otherwise posted. Experience is NOT necessary. All roles are open unless otherwise announced. Information packets with all information related to upcoming auditions can be picked up at the Magic Circle box office outside in the clear plastic cubby or can be found as a PDF in the Auditions schedule section on our website at least two weeks prior to auditions. Whether the audition is open to the public to observe or closed to just the directors and actors auditioning is up to the directors.
